In 2012, it took images and assessed the composition of the distant comet C/2009 P1 as well as snapped photos of comet ISON. It also observed six different stars, confirming the motion of the planets orbiting them, and took images of Earth, the Moon, and Mars. The data Deep Impact collected helped to confirm the existence of water on the Moon, according to NASA.
